Sure, John Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, are blissfully in love now, but the singer recently revealed that it wasn't exactly love at first sight.

The 35-year-old Grammy winner spoke with 'Los Angeles Confidential' magazine and admitted he wanted to take things slow when he first met the model, 28.

"I’m more cautious than that. I wasn’t like, ‘This is the woman I’m going to marry’ from day one," he said. "For me I’m the kind of person who needs to grow into that feeling."

It took a couple of years before he could see the swimsuit model as his wife. The couple dated since 2007 and it wasn't until December 2011 that the singer finally popped the question. But ultimately, he's glad he didn't rush into something before he was ready.

"The more you know someone, the more you’re inspired by your relationship," said John, who wrote the ballad, 'All of Me,' for his wife. "Also, I grew up just learning what it means to be in love with somebody… because I had never really been in love before. I guess you have to grow enough to be able to write that song with sincerity and authenticity.”

Now married for three years, they still plan on taking things slow. The couple aren't in any rush to have their first child together.

“We’re not really thinking about it yet. Most of my friends have kids actually, and basically, nobody ever says, ‘I wish I would have had them earlier!’ So at this point, I’m having a lot of fun playing with my friends’ babies," Chrissy said.
