Just Because She Doesn't *Look
Just Because She Doesn't *Look* Like a Real Person, Doesn't Mean She Shouldn't Be Treated Like One
Valeria Lukyanova -- the "Human Barbie" is a strange bird to say the least -- and she's might have some ignorantly racist themes running through her head -- but violence isn't an appropriate solution to anything, and to the men who attacked her, you're disgusting exhibits of human beings.
Valeria claims that she was attacked on Halloween night outside of her apartment in the Ukraine by two men who punched her in the face repeatedly before trying to strangle her. During a recent interview, Lukyanova says, "I was attacked by the entrance of my block of flats. I came back home from a shop with bags and entered the door code when two men rushed from the dark and attacked me. They said nothing and did not try to rob me. It happened in a flash -- they hit me on the head, several times on my jaw, then one of them began strangling me."
She concluded by saying that if her neighbor hadn't come outside, she might not have survived the attack.
Valeria claims to think that the attack is behind "menacing" phone calls and threats that she's received over the last 2 years, and presumes it has something to do with her "different" appearance.
Whatever this is, it's wrong. To allegedly attack someone because you don't like the way they look? What kind of world do we live in where people can't do what they want with their bodies without suffering the hateful, physical wrath of another person who disagrees with it? We can voice our displeasure at the many modifications that folks make to their bodies today -- and generally do ... especially when it's not the same choice that we, ourselves, would make -- but physically acting out an angry emotion on that person? That's crossing a huge, huge line and it needs to stop.
We never thought we'd say this, but jeez ... Poor Human Barbie.
