Poor Lindsay Lohan can't catch a break.

While vacationing in French Polynesia with her longtime friend Patrick Aufdenkamp, she contracted a rare and untreatable virus.

Prior to being struck with Chikungunya, the star seemed relaxed and happy, posting pictures of her exotic trip on her Twitter and Instagram accounts along with positive messages like, "The purpose of our lives is to be happy."

The Chikungunya virus is transmitted through mosquito bites and causes fever, severe joint pain and other symptoms which can last anything from a few days to weeks. Since no cure is available, treatment focuses on relieving symptoms.
