Way to Be Impossibly Insensitive, Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon ... sorry, guys, but Reese Witherspoon is just awful these days. It was embarrassing, the whole drunken arrest thing, and it really didn't show anything nice about her character, but in the time since that arrest, she really hasn't done anything to make herself seem all that forgivable. And now that her new movie is coming up, "Wild," the movie based on the memoir by Cheryl Strayed, the movie that she chose to do with her production company and subsequently chose to star in, she's running her mouth about it. And -- surprise! -- she's being real obnoxious.
Here's Reese talking about the more mature scenes in "Wild," the ones with the sex and the drugs:
"It was really hard to do it. I didn’t want to do any of it. I really didn't want to do the sex scenes. I really didn't want to do the heroin scenes… No sex scenes are fun. They are just like… sometimes they're fun, but there's a whole other set of stories. No, it was hard."
And here's one story in particular that just isn't nice:
"I called Cheryl the day before and I was like, 'I have to do this scene in this alley and I'm having sex with two guys,' and I'm like, 'Why did you do this?!' She said, 'I'm sorry I was such a slut in the '90s, but you're just gonna have to do it. Otherwise people are going to say, 'It's just going to be a hiking movie and that's stupid.' The way she talks and the way she feels and does not give a s--- about the way people think about her — it's really liberating."
The thing is that Reese read the book, loved it, and contacted Cheryl so that she could do the movie. And if you've read the book, you know that those explicit scenes are a big, important part of it. Doing the movie without sex and heroin would be to change the whole story, and Reese has to know that. To complain about it like this, it just seems whiny and annoying. And all that isn't even getting to the part where she had Cheryl apologize to her for being a "slut" ... really, Reese? That's a choice you're going to make?
It really is no wonder why this lady isn't America's sweetheart anymore.
